Visual Arts 1 (VIS1)
Intro to Image-making is a course designed for students to learn about how to engage in creative art and image-making, responsibly & safely use awesome technology to make art & collaborate with peers and the instructor on projects & assignments. Techniques will include freehand drawing, typography, painting and computer-enhancement for commercial advertising, illustration and art therapy exercises. Students will analyze the use of elements and principles in artwork to complete a series of original artworks to communicate personal ideas. Each week, students will be graded on assignments and participation using a provided rubric. Most importantly, this course is about HAVING FUN & using art as a powerful outlet to express yourself or ideas in a meaningful way.
Course Time frame: 18 Weeks
Minutes per day/per week: 30 minutes per day/2-3 hours per week

Why take this/Benefits?
This 18-week course is filled with creative projects, activities & challenges that will help grow student creativity, develop communication skills & engage in classroom activities. Students will participate in visual imagemaking weekly and be graded with the provided grading rubric. They will have the opportunity to learn about different art techniques, express themselves through art therapy exercises and learn about the relevancy of digital citizenship in our digital age. We will explore the process artists take to plan and sketch out ideas, experiment with various types of materials including non-traditional objects, as well as alter existing materials in addition to collaborating with their peers and instructor for high school Art or Elective Credit.
